NUFAR Organic Basil Seeds
(OP) 77 days
A prolific Genovese-type basil with lustrous, deliciously aromatic dark green leaves perfect for pesto, Nufar is highly resistant to fusarium wilt. Slow-bolting plants grow 18 to 24 inches high by 12 to 15 inches wide. Basil naturally helps repel insect pests, so try companion planting with leafy vegetables. Well-suited for both greenhouse and outdoor gardening. Direct sow into the garden after all danger of frost. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep, 2-3 seeds per inch, in rows 18 inches apart. Firm the soil well over the seeds. Thinning is not necessary. Can be started indoors in cell packs or flats 6 weeks prior to setting out.
RESINA Organic Calendula Seeds
(OP) 70 days
Highly aromatic flowers are primarily bright yellow, with some bright orange, both with lighter centers. Resina has an especially high resin content that makes it ideal for use in oils and tinctures. Edible blooms can also be used to add color and texture to salads and omelets. Calendula is used medicinally in skin ointments and lotions. Sow seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil and lightly cover. Kept at 70°F., germination averages 7-14 days. Can direct sow into prepared seed beds after all danger of frost 1/4 inch deep, 6 seeds per foot. Thin to 18-24 inches apart.
STARO Organic Chives Seeds
Allium schoenoprasum 'Staro'
'Staro' has deep green, thicker-than-normal leaves, resulting in higher yields and ease of harvest. Perfectly suited for freezing, drying, or eating fresh. The best way to harvest chives is by snipping the leaves with sharp scissors. The mild onion flavor is perfect for salads, vegetables, egg dishes and soups. The clover-like purple flowers appear in the spring - they are edible and make a colorful and flavorful addition to salads. Chives are great edging plants in the herb, vegetable or flower garden and grow well in containers. Clumping growth to 2 feet tall. A winter hardy perennial for zones 3 and above. Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and lightly cover. Darkness will aid germination. Kept at 70°F., germination averages 7-14 days. Transplant 6-8 inches apart, in rows 18 inches apart. Can direct sow as soon as soil warms, 1/4 inch deep, 1-2 seeds per inch. Thin to 2-3 plants every 6-8 inches.
BOUQUET Organic Dill Seeds
Bouquet is the best variety for producing dill seed. It blooms early and the seed umbels are large - meaning more seeds faster than with other dill varieties. Sow seed indoors in cell packs or flats, 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Press into soil and lightly cover. Kept at 60-65°F., germination is in 14-21 days. Transplant into the garden 12 inches apart. Can direct sow into prepared seed beds, 1/4 inch deep in rows spaced 18 inches apart. Thin to 1 foot apart.
BRONZE Organic Fennel Seeds
Attractive feathery smokey-bronze foliage has a mild, sweet anise-like flavor. It is good with fish (improves digestibility) and in soups, sauces and salads. This is one of the very best plants you can grow to attract beneficial insects to your garden. Grows 3-4 feet tall. A perennial grown as an annual. Packet is ½ gram, about 180 seeds.
