PR2457 CHRISTMAS ROSE HELLEBORE SEEDS
Helleborus niger
The 12-18 inch plants produce beautiful nodding, saucer-shaped, creamy-white blooms with yellow anthers
above handsome and lustrous dark green divided leaves. Wonderful when massed under high branching trees,
against north or east walls, or in shaded borders. Combines well with Hostas and Bergenia. Needs
moisture, shade and alkaline soil (add lime if your soil is acidic). Seed can be sown outdoors in
late fall or indoors anytime when pre-chilled in the refrigerator. Instructions are included on the
seed packets. Although germination is erratic over a period of 5-18 months, your patience will be
rewarded with distinctive and long lived perennials that will be more vigorous than nursery grown stock
and will cost you only a fraction of the price. Not recommended for hot climates. Winter hardy to
zone 3. Packet is 50 seeds.
PR7140 SPOTTED HYBRIDS HELLEBORE SEEDS
Helleborus orientalis hybrids
Intensely spotted white, pink or red 3-4 inch wide nodding flowers are carried in
winter and spring (for about 8-10 weeks) on 15-18 inch tall plants that remain
attractive throughout the year. More tolerant of the summer heat than the Christmas
Rose, it is probably the easiest hellebore to grow and is recommended for zones 4-9.
Prefers afternoon shade and regular water. Self-sows when encouraged (by providing
rich, moist soil) but colors will be variable; keep the ones you like and remove
the rest. They are easier to transplant than other hellebores. Seen can be sown
outdoors in late fall or indoors anytime when pre-chilled in the refrigerator.
Instructions are included on the seed packets. Although germination is erratic
over a period of 5-18 months, your patience will be rewarded with distinctive
and long-lived perennials at a fraction of the cost of nursery grown stock.
Packet is 15 seeds.
