full sun to part shadeA wonderful collection of evergreen, carpet forming succulents with thick, fleshy leaves. Plants form small or large rosettes depending on the variety. Little offsets (chicks) cluster around the parent rosettes (hens). The clustered star-shaped summer flowers are often rosy-red; can also appear in shades of pink, yellow, white or green. Excellent in containers or rock gardens. Winter hardy to zone 5.
Growing Winter Hardy Mix Sempervivum Seeds
Plant Sempervivum Seeds: Sow seeds in 2 in. pots or cell packs, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 70° F. germination usually occurs within 4-5 weeks. If not, put container inside a zip-lock bag with plenty of air and refrigerate for 2-4 weeks. Then return to 70° F. until germination occurs.
Grow Sempervivum: Easy to grow, needs little water or attention to thrive. Chilling instructions included as a precaution; our experience has been that chilling is not often needed.
