If Fireworks gomphrena could make noise, it would be an earsplitting KABOOM! Spiky, chive-blossom-like 1-2 in. flower clusters consist of a vivid, iridescent pink bundle of bracts that have many showy neon yellow stamens. Even though it can reach up to 4 ft. tall, Fireworks gomphrena is a "see through plant" that blends well when planted together with lower growing flowers. The shiny green foliage stays in a low, 3 ft. wide mound under long, wiry flower stems that allow other flowers to grow through them. A florist's dream, each Fireworks gomphrena plant produces dozens of dazzling blooms from early summer until frost that last long as fresh cut or dried flowers. Fireworks was a star performer at the Mississippi State University flower trials, excelling through blazing heat, steamy humidity and prolonged drought.
Growing Fireworks Gomphrena Seeds
Plant Gomphrena Seeds: Sow gomphrena seed in cell packs or flats, lightly cover with soil. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 60-70°F.; seeds germinate erratically over a period of 7-21 days. Transplant gomphrena seedlings into the garden 12-18 in. apart.
Grow Gomphrena: Easily grown in any well-drained soil, likes hot full sun, blooms prolifically. Tolerates dry weather and some light frost. Water gomphrena moderately; do not overwater.
