Wrinkled, arrowhead-shaped leaves impart a refreshingly sweet, cool scent and flavor. Use spearmint for making mint jelly and sauces for lamb and many mediterranean dishes. Spearmint also makes a delicious herbal tea, either hot or iced. Bees adore the fluffy spikes of light lavender-pink flowers. Spearmint plants grow 1-2 ft. tall and spread quickly; all types of mint are best grown in containers.
Growing Spearmint Seeds
Sow seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 65-75° F., seedlings emerge in 7-21 days. Transplant spearmint plants into containers or into garden 1-2 ft. apart.
