Peppermint's refreshing aroma is more pungent than spearmint; this is the mint of candy canes and mint chocolate. The leaves and flowers, fresh or dried, make an invigorating tea. Deep green, teardrop-shaped leaves have attractive reddish-purple undersides and stems. Whorled spikes of tiny purple flowers attract bees. Peppermint plants grow to 2 ft. tall, and spread vigorously. We recommend planting all mint in pots to keep them contained.
Growing Peppermint Seeds
Sow seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Needs light to germinate. Kept at 65-75° F., seedlings emerge in 7-21 days. Transplant peppermint plants into containers or into garden 1-2 ft. apart.
