Fluffy 4-6 in. long, rich mauve plumes age to a soft rose pink, then finish a light cream to tan. Flowers are long lasting and excellent for cutting. Leaves are slender and blue green, form neat, lush clumps smothered in summer flowers.
Savannah ruby grass grows 15-24 in. tall, is colorful and easy to grow in mixed borders and is also lovely when planted in patio containers. Among the showiest of grasses. Winter hardy to zone 8, can be grown as an annual everywhere.
How to Plant and Grow Savannah Ruby Grass
Plant Savannah Ruby Grass Seeds: Sow Savannah ruby grass seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and barely cover. Light aids germination. Keep soil evenly moist. Kept at 70 to 75° F., emergence is in 7-14 days. Transplant into the garden after all danger of frost. Can direct sow in groups of 3 seeds, spaced 12 to 15 inches apart. Thinning Savannah ruby grass seedlings is not required.
