Primrose Seeds
One of the oldest primrose species cultivated. Plants grow to 8 in. tall, hold clusters of beautiful flowers in shades of white, yellow, red, pink, and purple in spring. Leaves are leathery and paddle-shaped. Primula pubescens looks terrific planted in part to light shade with columbines or Palace Purple coral Bells. Winter hardy to zone 5.
Growing Primula X Pubescens Primrose Seeds
Plant Primrose: Sow primrose seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Need light to germinate. Kept at 60-65° F., germination is in 21-30 days. Transplant seedlings 8-12 in. apart when first anchor roots appear at the base of the plants, just above the soil line. Direct sowing primrose seed is not recommended.
Grow Primrose: Part shade in most climates, full sun in coolest areas. Likes moist, rich, well-drained soil and regular fertilizer. Superb in containers. Taller primroses are excellent for cutting.
