Omero, a brilliant reddish purple hybrid cabbage, forms round to slightly oval heads that weigh about 3 lbs. at maturity. The densely packed leaves are crunchy and tender with a mild peppery flavor ideal for cole slaw. Well-developed, silvery outer wrapper leaves provide good protection so Omero cabbages can be harvested over a long period. Omero will form mini heads if plants are spaced 6-8 in. apart, or thin to at least 18 in. apart for full-sized heads. Packet is 40 seeds.
Growing Omero Cabbage Seeds
Plant Cabbage Seeds: Direct sow ½ in. deep from March through June, 4-6 in. apart, in rows 2-4 ft. apart; thin to 18-24 in. apart. Can start seeds in 2 in. pots, transplant 18-24 in. apart. Kept at 65-75°F., germination is in 7-14 days.
Grow Cabbage: Cabbage is a cool season vegetable that thrives when planted in the early spring. In mild winter climates, cabbage can be grown as a winter crop; seedlings may be transplanted into the garden any time between early fall through early winter.
