Fawn
Romaine / Cos Lettuce Seeds
45-50 days, OP
Because Fawn is smaller than most romaine/cos lettuces, it is a great choice for planting in small gardens, patios and containers. Stocky, densely packed heads mature at about 8 in. tall and 6 in. wide, and have tender and crunchy light-colored hearts with blush-pink leaf tips. Deep green outer leaves are ornately speckled with red. Fawn lettuce grows well as a spring or fall crop.
Growing Fawn Romaine / Cos Lettuce Seeds
Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and cover lightly. Kept at 65°F., germination averages 7-14 days. Can direct sow into prepared seed beds 1 in. apart in rows 12-18 in. apart. Thin to 12 in. apart.
Sow Romaine/Cos lettuce seed every two weeks through early summer, starting as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. For fall planting, start seeds mid-summer in cool climates - or towards the end of summer in areas with considerable heat.
