Long-acclaimed as the "Caesar Salad lettuce," Romaine produces dense pointed heads of sturdy, upright leaves with exceptionally crunchy midribs.
Intred is a compact-growing romaine/cos lettuce with outer leaves in an intensely saturated, deep burgundy color, caused by a significant quantity of the antioxidant anthocyanin. These leaves have substantial, crunchy midribs, and are wrapped around a dense, rosy-red heart. Heads mature at about 8 in. tall, making Intred suitable for gardening in containers and small spaces. Good disease resistance extends the harvest window, and heat tolerance helps delay summer bolting.
Growing Intred Romaine / Cos Lettuce Seeds
Sow seed in cell packs or flats, press into soil and cover lightly. Kept at 65°F., germination averages 7-14 days. Can direct sow into prepared seed beds 1 in. apart in rows 12-18 in. apart. Thin seedlings to 12 in. apart. For harvesting lettuce at baby leaf stage, thin seedlings to 4 in. apart.
