Primrose Seeds
Primula x polyantha
Maroon flowers with prominent golden eyes, elegantly edged in gold. Colors are variable, beautiful, and unique. Introduced in the mid 1700s. Plants are longer-lived than modern hybrids. Gold Lace primrose can form showy mats of flowers up to 36 in. across.
Growing Gold Lace Primrose Seeds
Plant Primrose: Sow primrose seeds in cell packs or flats, press into soil but do not cover. Need light to germinate. Kept at 60-65° F., germination is in 21-30 days. Transplant seedlings 8-12 in. apart when first anchor roots appear at the base of the plants, just above the soil line. Direct sowing primrose seed is not recommended.
Grow Primrose: Part shade in most climates, full sun in coolest areas. Likes moist, rich, well-drained soil and regular fertilizer. Superb in containers. Taller primroses are excellent for cutting.
