A popular variety since the 1920’s, Golden Acre produces early, bearing 3 to 4 pound, perfectly round light green heads with creamy yellow centers. The small-veined leaves are tender, sweet and tightly packed. A great green cabbage for the home garden, because it can be planted closer together, producing well when spaced just 2 ft. apart. Packet is 1 gram, about 200 seeds.
Growing Golden Acre Cabbage Seeds
Plant Cabbage Seeds: Direct sow ½ in. deep from March through June, 4-6 in. apart, in rows 2-4 ft. apart; thin to 18-24 in. apart. Can start seeds in 2 in. pots, transplant 18-24 in. apart. Kept at 65-75°F., germination is in 7-14 days.
Grow Cabbage: Cabbage is a cool season vegetable that thrives when planted in the early spring. In mild winter climates, cabbage can be grown as a winter crop; seedlings may be transplanted into the garden any time between early fall through early winter.
