Heat and Humidity Tolerant Plants
Whether you are gardening in the Deep South or on a tropical island, we've created a list for you of over 50 types of annuals, perennials, flowering vines, vegetables and herbs that can grow well in heat and humidity.
How to ensure your plants thrive in heat and humidity:
- Well-drained soil will keep your plants happy and healthy. If the soil in your garden does not drain well, try growing in containers or raised beds filled with potting soil or a raised bed soil mix.
- Give your plants extra spacing for better airflow. Additional airflow allows foliage to dry faster and can help prevent disease.
- Water in the mornings and avoid overhead watering. Watering early in the day allows more time for foliage to dry. Leaves that remain wet overnight are more susceptible to disease.
- Give your plants the right amount of sun and shade. A little extra sun in areas with high humidity and some additional afternoon shade in areas with high heat can help keep your plants looking their best.
